Since 2005 and 12 years of the powerful Oblex light bulb burning bright, The Q1 Building on the Gold Coast has decided it was time for a paint job and while we are at it why not replace the Aircraft warning light to stay on the safe side.Seen some 40 miles out to sea and a clear navigational aid for our nautical friends at 327 meters above sea level it serves a number of uses other than its make intended .Since its installation an estimated 94 times its been hit by direct lightning strikes and although still working the old single light is to be replaced by a double arrangement with a redundancy configuration, to ensure The Gold Coast would not be without the its signature marker .
This project was over the course of 2 days. The first day consisted of prepparing equipment and scaffold in order to gain access to the top of the pole. The scaffold was used as a bridge to gain access.
The second day consisted of our riggers, Kane and Lachlan Richards climbed there way to the top of the pole whilst an electrician and another rigger was on the 78th floor winching the lights up and bringing the existing light down.
